Needleworks can be a tricky thing for a framer to do. I KNOW how long it takes to do any fiber arts and I love the craftsmanship and dedication that goes into them. So I do everything to insure that they are done properly.
We never glue a needlepoint, crewel, lace, embroidery or fiber art piece down to the supporting boards. We lace as much as we can. It is a time consuming task, but provides an even tension on the piece and is full reversible. If batting needs to be added we can do that. We also never leave pins in the piece because they will rust at some point in time and the stains they cause are hard to remove.
There is a wee bit of controversy over adding glass to needlepoints. We always recommend using some kind of glazing. This will keep dust, bugs, and what not off of your piece. There are so many kinds of glazing these days from regular glass all the way to Museum glass. With glass, we either use matting to keep it off the fabric or glass spacers if no matting is being used.
