Timeless. Earthy. Tim Maher.
To walk on the boardwalk at Lake Mohawk is like going back in time, where the pace of life is slow and life is a lot less complicated. Tim captures this essence beautifully in his works, inspired by the local scenery surrounding Sussex County.
I have been painting and drawing for over thirty years. My primary medium is oil, but I also enjoy working in watercolor and pastel. My primary interest is in the figure and portraiture, usually in a realistic, contemporary environment. I consider myself a classical painter with an occasional impressionist leaning. I prefer working from life, especially when it comes to landscapes. Working from photographs is another option I frequently use. I am the current president of the Art Centre of New Jersey (located at Riker Hill in Livingston) and run an open studio for figurative work there every Saturday. Drawing and painting the model from life is for me the most important part of my journey as an artist. I first started attending the sessions back in 1993 and continue to due so. I graduated from Rider College (now University) with a B.A. in Fine Arts/ Studio Concentration and my artistic mentor there was Harry Naar. I later furthered my studies at the Art Students League in New York with Harvey Dinnerstein. I have also taken several other painting/drawing classes in the New York area and have begun teaching. My work has been exhibited throughout the state and has won numerous awards, and I also am open to commissions. I currently live in Sparta, New Jersey. – Tim Maher
