The shop is always full of surprises! I spent one weekend removing old artwork from frames that were stored in a basement that flooded. I love old frames because you never know what you’ll find. On the back of this painting was a wonderful shop label for The Boots Chemists. They had a Picture Framing and Art Department! Sweet! I wonder if they did traditional gilding on their frames or if they got fa little funky. This label is very cool and I love the old graphics.
For future reference, take note that moisture and gilt frames do not play well together. Notice the large white and wooden sections on the top edge where the gesso, clay and gold just popped off the frame.
